Here is a master list of all my “Supernatural” drabbles (100 words exactly), for my own reference and for the convenience of anyone who’s interested.

The entire list, complete with links to my journal entries, is under the cut. )

Here I am again. It's my day, December 21st, my (gosh third) birthday as a fanfic writer when I look back over the year and think about what I accomplished.

I continued writing for "Supernatural". I got to a grand total of 100 drabbles written for "Supernatural", timed (not coincidentally) to coincide with Halloween. And then I stopped.

I dunno, I guess I just haven't been feeling very creative lately. I've had lulls before, and I always wonder if they're permanent or temporary. I guess I'll find out.

I wrote a lot of good drabbles -- drabbles that I enjoyed writing. You can go back to my post where I celebrate 100 drabbles for a full overview. I wrote a handful of longer fics, most of them in the "Forgotten" verse. (Hee! I have a 'verse!) which is all Dean/Jo. We haven't seen Jo for ages now, but the verse has a life of its own. I suspect that if I write any more, there's at least one more story to tell in that verse. Their daughter has a voice of her own that I can still hear.

My personal favorite has to be a fic I wrote called "Bellis Perennis". I started with the goal of writing something that could be a standalone episode of the show. No ships or guessing where canon is headed, just a monster of the week. I didn't get many reviews for it, and one of my most vocal reviewers liked it but (very politely) thought it felt unfinished. Which has more to do with my writing style than a lack of ideas -- people don't complain that drabbles feel unfinished; it's part of the territory.

I don't know if I'll write any more or not. And I tend not to read when I'm not writing, I'm not really sure why.

But we thank you for your support.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

I have now written 100 drabbles. A hundred! 10,000 words - exactly - about how I imagine the life and times of the Winchester family, and the people, places and things they've encountered.

I've written episode tags and crossovers, tales of childhood, romance and the apocalyspe, dialog-only and monster point-of-view. I told stories that were deadly serious, cuddly cute, full of angst, and just plain silly. I tried to make chickens and a Christmas tree as menacing as possible and used a bad pun as a monster. I experimented with quoting Shakespeare and wrote from the perspective of a plastic army man. I wrote stories that didn’t even impress me, and discovered that Supernatural fans love a certain ghost-hunting dog.

I've liberally sprinkled my drabbles with cultural references: King Arthur, Stephen King (more than once), The Twilight Zone, Where the Wild Things Are, Men in Black, a jump rope chant, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, He-Man, Greek mythology, Care Bears, H.P. Lovecraft, the Billy goats Gruff, Brigadoon, Bugs Bunny, the Saw movies, Fringe and the Morton salt girl. To name only a few.

And scattered in with all of these, I created ordinary hunts like those you might see on an average Thursday night.

They're not all great, I admit that, but I've been having fun writing these drabbles, 100 words at a time. So thanks for reading them!

Hey, guys, I'm back!

(Crickets.)

I decided to take some time off this summer. My creativity was waning, I had summery things to do, so I dropped off the face of the planet. (No visits to the netherworld on my agenda, though.)

Yesterday, I watched the repeat of the season three finale. I'm ready for the new season to start. Today, I started writing again -- I finished one untrimmed drabble and wrote another one. I'll post them shortly.

I know one thing. The rest of you have put some fun fics out there while I didn't exist. I look forward to reading them.

Now, let's get this season started!

Well, here it is December 21st again. And I'm still December21st.

My second birthday as a fanfiction writer, and time for me to reflect on the last year.

Even though I never returned to Stargate: Atlantis, I still hold a fond place in my heart for it. And then I started writing for Supernatural.

Drabbles! Drabbles! Drabbles! My first fanfic ever, Anniversaries, was a drabble, and then I wrote a series of twelve connected drabbles called Waking, (all for Stargate: Atlantis) but for Supernatural ... over 50 (fifty!) and still counting. There's something about Supernatural drabbles that appeals to me on a very basic level. See, I don't get full-fledged story ideas very often. And when I try to write them ... well, be glad I deleted them. I've written ... what, four longer-than-drabble-length stories for Supernatural. Ever. But I get these brief flashes of ideas that just WANT to be drabbles ... ideas that could be more, but are so much a story in just 100 words. I have so much fun writing drabbles.

Oh, and then there's Something Blue. Okay, it may not be all that popular compared to other writers, but for me, it was amazingly popular. By far the most response I've gotten for anything. I'm still getting reviews for it occasionally over on fanfiction.net, and I wrote the thing ... what, back in March?

So it's been a good year on the fanfiction front. And I'm writing a bit again, after something of a lull because reality will keep getting in my way.

I'll keep doing this as long as it's fun, and not a minute longer. I wonder what the next year will bring.

So, I haven't existed for a couple of months, and I've never, ever ficrec'd anything before.

Go read this. Now.

It's a (and I am NOT making this up) crossover between Supernatural and ...

Calvin and Hobbes

What? It's perfect. Go. Read. Now.

This is a review of the novel "Nevermore" by Keith R.A. DeCandido, the first novel based on the TV series "Supernatural." While this review will contain no more spoilers than the average book review (nope, I'm not going to give away the ending), the review itself can be found under the cut )

So I didn't actually read this book. What I did do was spend five minutes looking at it in the bookstore yesterday. It's a pretty terrible basis for a review, but that's what I'm doing.

The book in question is "The Supernatural Book of Monsters, Spirits, Demons and Ghouls" by Alex Irvine, a reference book for the show "Supernatural".

There are two glaring problems with this book, and the introduction showcases both of them. It reads something like (not an actual quote, based on memory) "Hi, we're Sam and Dean Winchester, and we've been hunting things our whole lives, ever since some thing killed our mother when Sam was six months old and Dean was five." Okay, wait a minute. First of all, Dean was four when their mom died. Any real fan of the show knows this. And first person plural? What kind of a weird-ass way is that to write a book? And a reference book, at that?

A little bit more skimming shows that this is continued through the book -- "we" did this, "Sam" did that, "Dean" did something else.

Nope, no index. Entries separated by monster. References to events in at least "In My Time of Dying," don't know if it goes beyond that. A big list of, um, European demons in the back. Not related to the show. Okay.

The entry on Reapers references spoilers for 'In My Time of Dying' ) so, again, minus points for inaccuracy.

And that's as far as I got. Why don't they ever have fans write these things? If it were accurate, it might be worthwhile. Don't bother sacrificing a tree for this one.

So, I heard that they're keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Dean in the Atlantic.

And I had to check.

The "S" name for this year is Sebastian. But Sam is in 2009.

This would have been a good series finale. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that "Supernatural" has been renewed for a third season, but they didn't know that when they filmed this, so they had to assume the worst, and I think they did a good job. )

Hi, I'm December, and I write drabbles. Rather a lot of them, actually. A drabble, just in case you don't know, is a story with 100 words exactly. The Info Page for [info]supernatural100, one of the drabble communities I hang out at, has several excellent links for topics like story length definitions, what makes a successful drabble, and word counters.

I've written up some tips on something else: getting your story to exactly 100 words, no more, no less. This is not written for a specific fandom, so anyone should be able to use it.

Because nobody else on your f-list has anything to say about last night's "Supernatural". But hey, look, it's not a drabble!

So here it is, December 21st. And here I am, December 21st. Today is my day. My birthday as a fanfic writer. It seemed as good a reason as any to post here.

The sad fact is, I've gotten over my crush on Stargate: Atlantis. I knew it was a crush from the beginning, but it was still a fun ride while it lasted.

I still revisit some communities and see what's out there. I'll respond to the occasional out-of-the-blue review. The fandom and I can still be friends. Not that I really made any friends in the fandom, but I didn't make any enemies either, so that's something.

Who knows, I may even write again. Or I may not. Either way, I'm pleased with what I accomplished.

This is not good-bye. This is aloha.

I, December, being of sound(ish) mind and body, do hearby resolve to respond to reviews to my fanfics. This, I do solemnly vow.

I'm horrible about saying "thanks" or otherwise responding to reviews, both here and elsewhere. And since I don't really get all that many reviews, and I do so love getting them, I am going to do my bestest to start responding to them.

We'll see how well it works.

Two actually pretty cool things happened today.

One (1). I won something! For my fanfic! My story Impending Doom, that I wrote for [info]sg_challenges won the first place for the challenge. And, okay, there were only four other people competing, but it's the first time ever that I've won an award for my fanfic, so wheeeeeee! And a tip of the hat to the other four people who wrote stories for the competition.

Two (2). The 2006 Stargate Fan Awards are now open for voting. And (after a little digging) Waking (my nominated story) is in the category of:
Fan Fiction: Atlantis > SHIP > Best Short Works: Vignette > Sheppard/Weir
I can go with that, that's reasonable. And there's a little pic I can post saying "Nominee" or somesuch. Look, see? A little pic for my user icon. I don't have sufficient LiveJournal rights to put it in a post. Now I will go off to read my competition. And lots of other nominated works. Tonight is a good night for fanfics.
